2020-2021 School Year will go down in the history books for sure! If you are like me and need to have some sort of idea as to how next year might look, I’m here to give you ideas. While I don’t have all the answers (who really does?) I have taught a lot of different ways in my four years of teaching! From block scheduling with 90 minute classes, to using a flipped classroom model, to not even having a classroom, I feel like I have done it all! Below I’m sharing my knowledge (and others!) To help you get a glimpse into next year, no matter how you might be asked to teach.
Blended Learning Options
Maybe you are teaching different cohorts of students on different days while the group at home is working digitally. If that’s the case, a Flipped Classroom Model would work great! Click here to learn the ins and outs of flipping your classroom. If you are looking for resources with the video part of this option, I’ve created 5th grade math videos for all standards on my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
With this option you might be teaching longer class periods so if that’s the case jump over to my Block Scheduling tips post.
If you are working with shorter class periods, Noelle at Maneuvering the Middle has great tips on how to work with a 60 minute class period!
Traveling Teacher/Cart Teacher
Maybe kiddos are staying in the same room all day and teacher’s are switching out to cut down on passing periods. If that’s the case I’ve got some tips on how to teach without a classroom. Check out my Day in the Life of a Cart Teacher post.
Block Scheduling
This model cuts down on the number of passing periods students will have, which is a concern some districts are facing. With block scheduling, students have longer classes (usually 90-120 minutes) but you see them every other day. I’ve rounded up my 5 Tips to Make Block Scheduling Work here.
If you want a handy template to keep you organized for this model, a planner is linked here!
Grade Changes
Asked to change grades due to enrollment numbers? I’ve done that every year of teaching so far! All my tips are rounded up over here!
Digital Only Model
I personally don’t have many tips for this model (just what I learned this past spring) but I’m pinning a ton of ideas on my digital learning board seem really helpful you are needing ideas!
