I’m such a sucker for basic pieces of clothing. I love a good capsule wardrobe and pairing basic staples with trendy finds. I’m sharing 5 teacher wardrobe basics that you need to have in your closet. And spoiler alert, you probably already have most of them!
Teacher Capsule Item: The Tee Shirt
One of those basics that I reach for time and time again is tee shirts. I just love the comfort they bring and just how easy it is to dress them up and down. All of these tee shirt looks are perfect for teaching in! Some are bodysuits, which are great for tucking into high-waisted pants and skirts.
Teacher Wardrobe Essentials: Black Pants
Such a staple in just about any office workplace, for good reason! You can’t go wrong with a pair of solid black pants. Pick a style you love and wear them in place of jeans. Perfect for a school that doesn’t allow jeans (I’ve been there and done that!).
Teacher Clothing Basics: The Dress
Sometimes, you just need a dress. Whether it is for conferences, meet the teacher night, or just want a go-to, already-planned outfit, a dress fits the bill. I like shirtdress styles that are easy to pair with sandals or boots and tights in the winter. Add a cardigan for the chilly AC and you are good to go!
Teacher Wardrobe Basics: A Nice Top
I think a nice top fits into the list of teacher wardrobe basics. This top pairs well with black pants, jeans or a skirt and adds a little extra sophistication to your otherwise basic outfit. Don’t be afraid to have a few of these! I have a different top for each season, which makes it great to match the weather. For winter I have a nice cozy sweater but in the spring I have a cute peplum or this striped tee.
These types of teacher wardrobe basics stand out on their own. I don’t usually add much jewelry or accessories. Usually the top and bottoms and shoes, then I’m good to go!
Basic Teacher Outfits: Jeans
This one might be controversial but I can wear jeans at my school so I think these belong on the list of teacher wardrobe basics. I’m kind of floating between styles at the moment- trying to leave my skinny jeans behind for straight-leg denim. But also realized I just love good skinny jeans! Does anyone relate??
Find a pair of jeans that fit you well, which I know can be so difficult! Madewell, J.Crew Factory, and Target are my go-to shops if you need ideas.
